Electrostatic shielding is the principle used in Faraday Cages. A Faraday Cage is made out of conductive material, which redistributes electrical fields to shield things inside. For example, electrical equipment in a Faraday cage will not be harmed by a lightning strike. Faraday cages also block many forms of electromagnetic radiation, so if you happen to walk inside one with your phone, you will not get any reception.
