What is electronic filing?
Electronic Filing is the electronic transmission of court documents to the courthouse. Previously, it was paper documents that had to be delivered to the courthouse in person. However, with electronic filing it is an electronic version of these paper documents that is received by the courthouse. At the courthouse the documents are accepted or rejected and with E-Filing.com you are returned e-mail with the status.
Although there are many views of what is considered an electronic transmission, the Secretary of State considers a document to have been electronically filed if it successfully comes in through the available port using a TCP/IP method of uploading into the specified filing server. The filed document must be in the Secretary of States current version of the Cal Format. (You can find a copy of the current version of the format at www.sos.ca.gov/prd/electronic_filing_info.htm). Note: The following methods are not considered nor accepted as electronic filing with our office: fax, email, floppy diskettes or CDs.

The Federal/State Electronic Filing Program (e-file) is a “one-stop filing” program between the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS). e-file enables you to electronically file both your federal and Connecticut Resident, Nonresident or Part-Year residents income tax returns in one single transmission using a computer instead of having to manually prepare your returns and send them through the mail. Both returns are transmitted to the IRS, who in turn acknowledges acceptance of the federal return and receipt of the state data.
