What is electronic filing?
The electronic filing system streamlines the process of filing and noticing case documents by permitting attorneys in selected civil and criminal cases to file documents with the Court and deliver them to opposing parties directly from their computers via the internet. It has the potential to provide substantial savings to attorneys, their clients and the Court while improving accuracy and access to Court records.
Electronic Filing (eFile) is one of the most popular methods of filing taxes, developed by the IRS nearly two decades ago, starting in 1986. As of 2006, more than one half of all personal income taxes have been eFiled. Electronic Filing involves formatting the data of a prepared return into a prescribed form and conveying that data to the Service Center(s) via secure Internet connectivity using SSL or dedicated telephone lines individually or in batches.
