What is EiC and how does it relate to the BIP?
Excellence in Cities (EiC) is a targeted programme bringing in additional resources to address the needs of our core urban areas, its key purpose being the provision of a package of programmes and extra funding designed to remedy successive failures to address the educational problems of the major cities where standards had been too low for too long. From this year onwards existing and new BIPs will be delivered through the EiC structure as part of a new behaviour and attendance element of EiC. This reaffirms the Government’s perspective that behaviour and attendance are issues that are inextricable from school standards and the belief that EiC and BIP should be co-ordinated together at local level. The move is also a response to feedback from LEAs and schools asking the Department to rationalise linked funding streams and initiatives.
