What is Eczema and what is the cause of eczema?
Eczema is the general term used for various types of inflamed skin conditions that are caused by abnormal reactions of the immune system. The cause for these abnormal reactions is not known yet. Eczema is an itchy rash that flares up periodically. It can be observed that the eczema flare ups often relate to external factors. They mainly occur during childhood (child eczema). Mostly, the skin condition disappears in about 50 percent of the children when they get older. However, adults can be affected by eczema, too. Currently, there are more than 15 million Americans suffering from a form of eczema. Between 10 and 20 percent of the children in the US are currently affected. Eczema is not contagious. It can be observed that people with a family history this condition or other allergies, like asthma, are more frequently affected. Many patients also suffer from other allergies.
