What is ECTS credit?
The idea behind ECTS credit ( The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) is that it is an innovative university teaching assessment system (for academic subjects), which is based on one of the key strategies for implementing the EEES. It was initially set up and developed with the help of the European Exchange Program for University Students (ERASMUS-SOCRATES) as a means of finding a system that recognized foreign qualifications and their equivalents. Furthermore, it seeks to recognize foreign taught programs. One could quite easily infer that that the ERASMUS-SOCRATES program has been a pioneer in its field, and that it has it has become “a testing ground” for the future implementation of the European Area of Higher Education -given the number of European students that have passed since its creation (more than a million students).
