The Environmental, Coastal, and Ocean Sciences Department (ECOS) is an interdisciplinary marine science and policy program located at the University of Massachusetts Boston. It provides students with a background in both natural and social sciences, as well as in-depth education and the opportunity for research experience in a range of specialty areas. The specialty areas currently available include: ecology; environmental microbiology; chemistry of aquatic systems; phytoplankton ecology; estuarine physics; environmental physiology/toxicology; environmental law, policy and administration; population and environmental biology; biotechnology; green chemistry; and cellular and organismal physiology. In addition to the EEOS faculty members, faculty from the Departments of Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Economics participate in EEOS Department activities.
