Ecology is more than just the study of plants and animals. Ecology is defined as the study of the interactions between living and non living components of the environment or an ecosystem. A few interesting facts about animals include: Gyrinids (An aquatic insect) has a but that smells like apples. Rana sylvatica (wood frog) is the only amphibian that lives above the article circle. The genus Rivulus (a hermaphroditic fish) is the only vertebrate that can self fertilize. Birds can see earths magnetic field. There are beetles that insert sperm into another males sperm sac to increase chances of reproduction for that male. Lampreys (a fish) live 6 out of 7 years of their life buried in the sand without eyes. The candiru (a south american catfish) is parasitic to humans swimming into the urethra during urination.
