The cause of the condition is unknown and it tends to occur in children and young adults. The big toe is the most common digit affected. Dupuytren subungual exostosis is listed as a “rare disease” by the Office of Rare Diseases (ORD) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This means that Dupuytren subungual exostosis, or a subtype of Dupuytren subungual exostosis, affects less than 200,000 people in the US population.
