DTMF is the bleeping sounds that you hear when you press a phone key. Each key generates a pair of tones hence the name Dual Tone Multi-frequency. DTMF is also used in signalling as it can travel over telephone quality lines. They are used to switch adverts on TV, switch car radios to traffic reports (RDS traffic alert) and similar applications.
