What is DSL Internet Access?
DSL Internet connectivity is a high-speed internet connection over the existing copper telephone cabling infrastructure. Unlike Cable modems, DSL provides for dedicated bandwidth between users and the DSL provider’s central office, however there is little or no bandwidth guarantee across the Internet for residential lines. DSL maximum bandwidth is usually lower, however more stable than Cable modem rate, because of differences in their respective network technologies. xDSL uses a greater range of frequencies over the telephone cable than the traditional telephone services have used. This in turn allows for greater bandwidth with which to send and receive information. xDSL bandwidth has improved a lot over the years, however distance limitations and line quality conditions can reduce what speeds are actually achievable.
