What is Dry Cleaning vs. Wet Cleaning?
The wet in wet cleaning simply refers to water. Many garments can be cleaned in water with additives. However, in the case of leathers and suedes, lining shrinkage and dryness of skins are the main concerns. The process we use in wet cleaning actually adds oils to the skin, allowing it to be safely cleaned in water. The dry in dry cleaning simply refers to no or limited use of water in the cleaning solution. There are now several solvents use in cleaning. The main ones are perchlorethylene (known as perc) and petroleum solvents. Perc is now highly controlled as a hazardous product, and the Federal Government is limiting its use.
