What is driving development of the SMI-S standard?
Efficient management of a multi-vendor storage area network (SAN) is a key concern for end-users and integrators alike. Today’s management requires using uncoordinated applications from multiple vendors. These lack the required functionality, distribution, security, and reliability to ensure delivery of business efficiency. Ultimately, the high cost of management deters the end user from aggressively embracing storage networking technology. SMI-S is intended to be the unifying factor between the vast objects that must be managed in a storage network and the tools used to manage them.
