What is Dramaturgy Northwest?
Dramaturgy Northwest (established June 1996; revised and redesigned, summer, 2003) is an ongoing project of of Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA) and the the Theatre Arts Department at the University of Puget Sound. These resource materials for individuals interested in dramaturgy are meant to be more like rough lecture notes than final drafts. New material will be added on a regular basis; existing material will be revised and refined. Throughout you will find the phrase: “beginning points.” At best, these notes from many different voices will serve as such. Corrections and suggestions welcome. Dramaturgy Northwest relies on a central navigation bar that represents six, essentially concentric fields of inquiry: 1. definitions; 2. understanding; 3. research; 4. history; 5. collaboration; 6. glossary. Working from the innermost ring out, the first section (definitions) will, as it grows and expands, explore various uses and practices of the word, dramaturgy itself,
