What is Dolby Surround Sound or DSS and are all Bang & Olufsen TVs fitted with it?
Dolby Surround Sound is basically a system that reproduces the type of sound you would hear in a cinema. In other words, the sound will come from all areas of the room. There are various types of surround sound, with the most common being Dolby 5.1 and DTS (Digital Theater Systems). ‘Dolby 5.1’ means that there are 5 full range speakers – a ‘centre speaker’ under the TV’s screen, two at the front and two at the back. The ‘.1’ refers to a subwoofer which provides additional very low frequencies which can make sounds like explosions and low rumbles much more realistic. The BeoLab 2 is astonishingly good at this and comes highly recommended! The larger new Bang & Olufsen sets will have Dolby 5.1 boards as standard. Older sets may also have this but it may be of an earlier, less sophisticated type. Please contact us to find out if the set you are interested in has Dolby fitted.
