Dolby Digital (AC-3) is a fully digital audio coding mode developed by American Dolby laboratory. It provides 5 completely separate channels of the full frequency domain between 3Hz~20kHz, including the main left and right channels, mid-positioned track and post-positioned left and right surround channels. The biggest difference with the Dolby Pro-Logic is that the post-positioned left and right surround channels are stereo track, and each track has a full frequency domain.
