What is Dolby Digital – Surround EX?
Dolby Digital – Surround EX is a feature enhancement to current 5.1 soundtracks jointly developed by Lucasfilm THX and Dolby Laboratories Inc. Announced in October 1998, Surround EX provides a surround back channel matrixed onto the films discrete soundtrack. In the theater, the new Surround EX channel information is intended to be reproduced by the speakers at the rear of the theater, while left and right surround information is reproduced by the speakers on the sides.
