California State Law authorizes the County to levy a transfer tax, also known as a Documentary Transfer Tax (DTT), when a real property is conveyed or transferred. The tax is made up of two components, a City tax and a County tax The base rate of this tax through-out California is 55 cents per $1,000 to the City and 55 cents per $1,000 to the county for a Documentary Tax Rate of $1.10 per $1,000 of tranfer value. However, some Cities have established a higher tax rate.
