What is DNS?
• DNS stands for Domain Name Service. It is the Internet-wide system for connecting domain names, like customerdomain.com, to their respective web servers. DNS translates domain names to their corresponding IP Address. Without DNS, people would have to visit their favorite web sites by typing in numbers instead of their names.
To simplify a really geeky topic, DNS (Domain Name Services) is a way for computer networks to identify themselves to other computers. Computers address each other by “dotted octet” IP numbers (209.83.242.191) where we humans use names (nww.net.) Some services use this feature to authenticate the claimed identity of a caller.
Your domain name is a long set of numbers that would be very hard to remember so we use descriptive words and let the (DNS) Domain Name Server software translate the domain name into sets of numbers (IP address xxx.xx.xxx.xx) so that a browser can locate your site. Two servers a primary and a secondary DNS. Your domain name is considered parked at the servers you specify. When you register a domain name with abcYourDomain.com it is parked free for you until you are ready for it.
