what is directed reading activity?
In a basal reading series, there’s the student text and the teacher’s manual. As you read with the students you stop and teach key points that are listed in the teacher’s manual. It may vocabulary or a reading strategy or literary devices, etc. Years ago teacher’s were insulted because they called these teacher’s manuals ‘teacher proof’ as if without the manual we couldn’t teach!
