What is Direct Thermal versus Thermal Transfer labels?
Amswer: Direct Thermal labels are a treated paper which is sensitive to heat. When the label passes below the printer’s printhead, the heat of the printhead causes the paper to change color. This type of label is often used in environments where the label will not be subjected to heat or sunlight and will be used for a shorter period of time, such as a shipping label. Thermal Transfer labels are a coated paper which works in conjunction with a ink ribbon. When the combination of ribbon/paper pass under the printer’s printhead, the heat causes the ink to transfer, creating an image on the label. Thermal Transfer labels are used for long-term applications such as shelf labels, parts labels or asset labels.
