What is Direct Deposit?
Direct deposit delivers your Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefit into your bank, savings and loan or credit union’s account quickly and safely. The U.S. Treasury sends an electronic message to your bank, savings and loan or credit union crediting your account with the exact amount of your Social Security or SSI benefit. You can withdraw money, put some in savings or pay bills-the things you do with your money now. The difference is, your check isn’t printed or mailed.
When you choose direct deposit as your payment method for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits, the UI Program uses an automated electronic transaction to deposit UI benefits directly to your existing checking or savings account. The UI Program sends UI benefit payments to the bank account you select.
Direct Deposit allows you to have all or part of your paycheck or benefits electronically sent to your Prepaid Visa RushCard on payday. It is more safe, secure and convenient than receiving payment in the form of a paper check and saves you the hassle and expense associated with getting that check cashed, and handling large amounts of cash.
A. Direct deposit is a method of electronic funds transfer. For purposes of this document, the term ‘bank’ is used to include banks, credit unions, and savings and loan associations. Payments can be deposited into both checking and savings accounts. Child support payments, spousal support payments, and dollar specific medical support payments can all be sent to you via direct deposit.
