What is Dim Sum and how is it prepared?
Dim Sum is a very Cantonese Chinese thing. In the narrowest term, they are Chinese appetizers, although there is no main course. So, it is better to think of it as a collection of small dishes. Most of them are savory and some of them are sweet. The nice thing about it is that you are not committed to a single dish. In a single Dim Sum, you will probably get to try 3-6 dishes, and they are fairly reasonable priced. Here is a picture for some of the dim sum: http://www.worldcountries.info/HongKong/… The most famous of all is probably the BBQ buns, also known as Cha Siu Bao. It is the one on the very upper right of the photo. Dim Sum in a boarder term is a lifestyle. It is a very family oriented event. You will see a lot of grandparents bringing their grandchildren to it. You have to taste your tea. The selection of tea is important here, sorta like picking the right wine in a nice western dinner.
