What is digital watermarking?
Digital audio watermarks are frequency patterns imbedded within a recording that carry instructions such as SDMI’s “usage rules”. Security professionals, such as Professor Felten’s research team, have found the audio watermarks utilized by SDMI to be relatively easy to defeat. EFF is fighting for the scientists’ right to make and support this claim with their paper, “Reading Between the Lines: Lessons from the SDMI Challenge”.
