What is Digital Theater Systems (DTS) entry into the Surround EX world?
DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 is the surround decoding technique used to describe the process of decoding DTS movies that have Surround EX decoding. The DTS-ES theatrical adapter (decoder) performs its rear channel matrix decoding much like Dolbys except in the digital domain with 24 bit resolution. Back surround information is encoded on the DTS l/r discrete surround tracks via the Dolby/THX Surround EX process. The decoder is still compatible with any existing encoded 5.1 DTS printmasters.
