What is Differentiated Instruction (DI)?

0

DI is a teaching philosophy based on the premise that teachers should adapt instruction to student differences. Every child is unique. Although we may rejoice in this fact, it often poses a dilemma for educators. When students are diverse, teachers can either “teach to the middle” and hope for the best, or they can face the challenge of diversifying their instruction. Marian Educational Outreach (MEO) and Project Outreach In November 2006, Welborn Baptist Foundation presented, MEO with a grant for Project Outreach that would lay the groundwork to provide DI training to every teacher in every school within the Catholic Diocese. Sts. Peter and Paul has been chosen for Phase 2 of this grant. All teachers began the school year with DI training provided by the I.U. Center for Education and Lifelong Learning. The teachers will receive continued training throughout the school year.
