A. The telephone-based storm warning system is actually a separate system. This system sends out an automated message whenever a tornado warning or severe thunderstorm warning is issued. It is able to deliver the message faster because it is an automated process where the weather warnings are issued and a computer interprets the information and puts out the message. Only those in the path of the storm will receive phone calls. Traditionally, storm warnings are issued for an entire county. That means a storm could be nowhere near this City and warnings would have still been issued. With this new system, you will only receive information when you are considered in the potential path of the storm. YOU MUST OPT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE STORM WARNING SYSTEM BE SELECTING THE APPROPRIATE CHECK BOX ON THE REGISTRATION PAGE . IF YOU DO NOT CHOOSE THAT OPTION YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE THE WEATHER WARNING NOTIFICATIONS .
