• A: Dicyclomine (Bentyl) works on the muscles of the stomach and intestine to relieve spasms and block the action of a chemical called acetylcholine. These effects make dicyclomine an appropriate treatment for functional and irritable bowel syndrome. Medicines are sometimes prescribed for conditions that are not mentioned in the patient leaflet and/or prescribing information. Do not use dicyclomine for a condition for which it was not prescribed.
