What is Diabetes Insipidus (DI)?
Diabetes Insipidus (DI) is a condition characterized by excretion of large amounts of severely diluted urine, and increased thirst. Here, the reduction in fluid intake does not have any effect on the output of urine. Diabetes insipidus should not be confused with diabetes mellitus, which results from insulin deficiency or resistance leading to high blood glucose. These conditions are unrelated, although they may have similar signs and symptoms. Diabetes insipidus is often referred to as ‘water’ diabetes to distinguish it from the more common diabetes mellitus or ‘sugar’ diabetes.
