What is DHT?
DHT (Distributed Hash Table, technical explanation) is an addition to certain BitTorrent clients that allows them to work without a tracker. What this means is that your client will be able to find peers even when the tracker is down, or doesn’t even exist anymore. It allows the swarm to continue as normal without a tracker. You can also host torrents without a tracker. (see Does µTorrent support trackerless torrents?). µTorrent’s DHT implementation is the same as Mainline and BitComet’s, but unfortunately this is incompatible with Azureus’s implementation.
Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is believed to be the cause of male pattern baldness. DHT is formed from testosterone when testosterone comes into contact with oil glands in the hair follicles. DHT gets in to the hair follicles and shrinks them. At the same time, it makes the protective membrane of the scalp thicken, restricting blood flow to the capillaries. This gradually causes hair loss.
The most widely accepted theory of what causes Androgenetic Alopecia is the DHT factor. DHT is produced when the enzyme 5 alpha reductase combines with testosterone. DHT then attachesit self to the hair follicle eventually causing it to stop producing hair. While we all produce DHT, there does exist an inherited genetic trait (that can come from either side of the family – mother or father’s side), that will make some of us much more susceptible to DHT.
