What is Development Coordination Disorder?
Development coordination disorder is a childhood disorder in which a child is slow to develop basic motor coordination skills. The child may have no other developmental concerns. If the youngster is mentally retarded, however, then Development Coordination Disorder will only be diagnosed if his or her physical delay is greater than would have been expected considering the child\’s diagnosis. Symptoms of Development Coordination Disorder (DSM-IV Criteria) In order to diagnose a child with development coordination disorder the child must meet the following symptoms: The childs motor coordination in day-to-day activities is significantly less than would be expected base on the childs age and intelligence.
