What is detox and what do I do if a loved one needs detoxification services?
Detoxification is the clearing of toxins from the body of the patient who is intoxicated and/or dependent on substances of abuse. Detoxification seeks to minimize the physical harm caused by the abuse of substances. Attempting to detox on your own from some drugs, such as alcohol, can be extremely dangerous. Detoxification, withdrawal, and treatment should be completed at a licensed treatment center. Admission to the Prairie Center’s Detox Unit is completed at our 122 West Hill Street, Champaign, location. Our Detox Unit is open 24 hours and can be reached at: 217-356-7576. Medical staff are on duty at all times and are specially trained to follow certain protocols to help patients safely detox from drugs or alcohol.
