No it is not the same thing. Demerol is a pain medication and propofol is used to put a patient to sleep before surgery. Demerol is prescribed to patients and can be picked up at the pharmacy with a prescription, propofol is not prescribed to patients outside of the hospital, only used during surgical proceedures by an anesthesiologist.
