What is Defense in Depth (DiD)?
Defense in Depth is a concept of securing resources in concentric layers. At the core is the resource. A single layer of protection may be implemented to prevent the recreational hacker from obtaining the resource, but it may not discourage a professional hacker with a more purposed intent to obtain the information. As a result, a second layer of protection may be put in place to delay or discourage this type of cracker (a hacker with malicious motives). There are no limits to the amount of layers that can be placed to secure a resource. Normally, the greater the value of information, the more layers of security implemented to protect it.
