The DECT standard was developed by ETSI (European Telecommunication Standardization Institute). It is a worldwide open standard enabling interoperability between different products and vendors. In the U.S. it operates over the 1.9GHz frequency which is exclusively for the use of cordless phones. In other countries it uses the 1.8GHz band.
