What is De-Flex strip and What is a zip stick?
The De-Flex strip is material similar to the seat belt material in your car. This prevents the cast saw from going through the cast and getting the patient’s skin. It is especially needed for the Gore Procel cast kits due to the thinness of the cast. The alternative is to use a zip stick. This is a long thin flat stick that slides under the cast at the time of removal. It acts simply to protect the patient from any cuts or burns from a cast saw.
