What is Dartmouth doing to increase energy efficiency and save money?
We are absolutely committed to preserving our natural environment and implementing sustainable practices that minimize the College’s carbon footprint while reducing wasteful energy use. Through the Dartmouth Sustainability Initiative, students, faculty, and staff have shown their ingenuity in coming up with creative solutions to ensure the College remains at the vanguard of environmentally responsible institutions of higher education. One illustrative example of cutting energy waste is Thayer Dining Hall. For years, outdated insulation and an inefficient heating system led to excessively high maintenance costs. With the recently announced plans to renovate the space and rename it the Class of ’53 Commons, Dartmouth will be saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual heating costs while reducing needless energy use and creating an expanded dining and meeting ground for students.
