What is dark fiber and how is it used for A/V systems?
Dark fiber is pre-installed fiber optic cable that was installed for future use but is not currently being used. Structured cabling is often installed with extra fiber optic cables for future expansion. If available, dark fiber can be used to install new A/V equipment without the added cost of installing new fiber. When signals are being transmitted between floors of a building or between buildings on a campus, the availability of dark fiber will simplify the installation.
