The Center recommends a comprehensive approach to alcohol and other drug prevention that includes educational strategies such as curriculum infusion. Other elements of environmental management include promoting alcohol-free options, creating an environment that promotes healthy social norms, limiting alcohol availability, restricting marketing and promotion of alcoholic beverages, and enforcing policy and laws. Curriculum infusion is the process of integrating substance abuse prevention content into courses that are offered regularly across the curriculum. Because faculty are responsible for development and delivery of curriculum, this strategy requires the participation of faculty who design prevention content for their courses. As one element of a broad approach, curriculum infusion can be useful, especially for commuter schools.
