I appreciate the concerns of constituents who have written to me about HMS Hood. The harbour authority, Portland Port, has withdrawn access to HMS Hood in the interests of safety whilst the Authority conducts an assessment of the future use and status of the south ship channel and the future of the wreck of the Hood. I have been in contact with Portland Port and with Graham Knott, Chairman of Weymouth and Portland Dive Boat Association, and I have persuaded them to meet shortly to discuss the options. I realise the importance of this wreck for divers, tourism and local businesses in the area and I hope that a suitable agreement can be reached as soon as possible. I will update this post as I make progress.
