What is Cul-Blanc by Dick King-smith about?
Dick King Smith is a very popular children’s author and has written at least a hundred books, and the film Babe was based on his book The Sheep- pig. Cul-blanc is the story of a piglet, son of a saw called Duchesse Dorothée. He is despised by his family, because he has an unfortunate white mark on his posterior, hence the title which is the French for “White backside”. He is advised by his friend (an old rat) to leave home to avoid the fate of pigs, namely to be turned into sausages, so he runs away and meets an exceedingly clever cat Bandit-le-Borgne who suggests that they travel together. They have various adventures ( one of which being that he is taken as a shooting target during an army exercise) at the end of which he becomes a celebrity.
