What is Crystal Reports and how does it fit with the WVFIMS Ad Hoc Project?
Crystal Reports is a powerful Windows based desktop report generator tool. It is designed to allow “end users” to produce unlimited types of traditional and custom reports without having to learn a complex programming language. Currently, IS&C recommends and supports Crystal Reports as the State s de facto standard for Ad Hoc reporting. The goal of the State s Ad Hoc Reporting project is to meet most of WVFIMS reporting requirements using Crystal Reports. Crystal Reports is designed to query databases in most any manner, and then manipulate and format the resulting data to generate reports. Crystal Reports provides end users with powerful features, such as summarizing, sorting, and select functions that can be applied to data to produce many reports. For example, users can calculate totals and subtotals, sort records, specify custom record selection criteria, and link together properly organized tables for querying and reporting purposes. With the explosion of vendor software developme
