What is crime scene staging?
Crime scene staging is when the offender places the victim or objects in a certain way to make it appear as though a certain act has taken place. It can be done for a multitude of reasons. Namely to mirror another offender’s MO, to take attention away from components of the crime, it could be a ritualistic thing, or to make a statement about the victim. For example, a person may break into a house and kill the occupant purely to steal documents. They may then go back to the victim, remove the clothing and splay the victims limbs out everywhere, making it look like a sexually motivated attack.
