What is cove molding?
Cove molding is a decorative style of molding that is frequently placed around the edge of a ceiling. When installed correctly the elaborate strip of wood makes for an attractive border, but definitely presents some installation challenges.FeaturesThe molding comes with a wide central portion that has a narrow upper and lower edge. The central part of the molding is a long concave cut that gives the molding its name, but there is a very small square cut (called a “strikeoff”) underneath and above the “cove.”FunctionCove molding should not be used to cover up wall problems, but works best when the wooden strips are placed at the juncture between the ceiling and the top of the wall as a visual element of the room.MaterialOriginally, cove moldings were made from wood.
