What is County Rail Authority? What is the money used for?
Carver County Regional Rail Authority is a Board which oversees designated rail transportation corridors in Carver County. Money is used for land stewardship to maintain rail transportation corridors for future transportation uses. Examples include maintaining drainage across railroad corridors, maintaining bridges/trestles, removing vegetation and control of noxious weeds, general clean-up of debris and trash, providing interim use of the rail corridor for trail purposes, and permitting of work within railroad right-of-way for utilities and road crossings. Money may also be used to operate and maintain railroads within Carver County. Prior to 2006, the rail was listed with OTHERS on the statement. Per Minnesota Statute 276.04, Subdivision 2, for counties that levy for Regional Rail Authority, the amount of the levy shall be listed separately.
