What is Counseling?
Simply stated, counseling is any relationship in which one person is helping another person to better understand and solve some problem. Friends and relatives provide a type of counseling, as do clergy, academic advisors, teachers, and many others. The counselors at the Georgetown College Counseling Center are different from others who may offer counseling because of their extensive training in psychology and human behavior.
Counseling, or counseling, is a safe place for people to express their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment or repercussions. Counseling is also where people can actually identify their problems, find out how to overcome those problems, and make their lives the best it can be. Our trained and licensed counselors at Life & Work Soulutions generally employ a type of Counseling called Cognitive-behavioral Counseling. The term “cognitive” applies to the way we “think” and the term “behavioral” applies to the way we “act.” Cognitive-behavioral Counseling identifies and changes self-defeating thoughts and behaviors. We also regard each client as an individual to be cared for and encouraged during their healing journey. We offer unconditional positive acceptance for everyone regardless of their condition.
