Temporary relief for itchy skin. Cortisone reduces the inflammation response and helps block the release of histomine, which damages cells. Cortisone will also reduce the redness from an imune reaction, say to poison ivy, but I suggest you use it sparingly. Long term use of this stuff is not a good idea.
