What is considered a disability is washington state?
The same as in any state. Disability is defined in the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as any impairment or perceived impairment that significantly limits one or more major life activities (like work, education, or the ability to use public facilities). Physical impairments severe enough to cause such limitation are included–those tha tare minor are not. For example, simply being nearsighted is not a disability. Thesame is true of learning/cognitive or psychological disability. It’s harder to quantify those, though. Usually the determination is made by qualified medical professionals based on the individuals level of function. Unfortunately, under another law (the Individuals with Disabilities Act) schools often get away with substituting the opinions of unqualified school employees for qualified medical judgement-resulting in many children being classed as “disabled” who are actually not.
