What is concurrency and why is it important?
Concurrency, which means occurring at the same time, relates to the financing and timing of construction of public services and facilities. Concurrency for water, sewer, and transportation facilities is a requirement of the state’s Growth Management Act. Before a new development is approved, the county’s comprehensive plan requires that sewers and water must be in place. Roads must be in place or funded for construction within three years. Developers pay impact fees to the county to help fund these capital facilities.
