A. Computer-based faxing uses your computer to send and receive faxes. To do so, you need a specialized fax modem and specific software to send the fax. The fax modem uses the Internet to transmit the document, which means you can’t be online while you fax something. One of the other limitations to computer faxing is that you have to save the documents on your computer. So, if you have a paper document you’re sending, you’ll have to scan it first. You also must answer the fax call when someone sends you one. The benefit, of course, is that you have the faxes saved to your computer, no matter what format they are sent in – no matter if it’s a traditional or computer-based fax.
